I've added the Course Syllabus for Spring 2009, but don't consider it to be engraved in stone yet.

Saturday, December 13, 2008

If you're trying to get into one of my closed sections for Spring Semester 2009, use this form.

IMPORTANT:
Examination 6 is at 4:00 on 15 December, NOT 5:30. It's hard to imagine that there could be students who still don't realize that, but I'm telling you again just to be sure.
IMPORTANT:
If you accept Examination 6 into your hands, you will no longer be allowed to withdraw. This means you will receive a letter grade, and it will affect your GPA. If instead you choose to withdraw, you need to tell me before Examination 6 is handed out. In that case, you will receive a W, which will NOT affect your GPA. Look closely at the class standings to determine whether it is possible for you to pass. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

The key to PhysioEx 7 is posted.

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

I've added the breakdown of Practicum 3 (under Official Information). See it.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

I've added information to the Class Standings page, and I've amended the explanation. Be sure to see both.

Sunday, November 23, 2008

Read the entire BioPac handout carefully. Do this WELL before coming to the laboratory (like right now, for instance). Be sure you know all the definitions, how to properly select data to obtain the various measurements, and how to do the calibration.

WEDNESDAY LABORATORY STUDENTS ONLY: Submit your group self-evaluations to me by email today. Follow the instructions on the form. If you can open the Word document, it's easiest just to fill it in, save it, and attach it to an email message to me. If you can't open the Word document, then take a look at the PDF version to see what information you have to send to me. Don't leave anything out, in either case.

Don't grade yourself; just your groupmates.

The PrePharmacy club is hosting Dr. Jamie Joy from the U of A School of Pharmacy in Phoenix on Wednesday 12 November at 4:30 in the Student Life Conference Room. The URL for the club is http://www.freewebs.com/phoenixcollegeprepharmacyclub/index.htm.

Thursday, November 6, 2008

Patty Finkenstadt will be holding an open lab on Wednesday (12 November) during which you may review the hearts and cadavers. She'll be there from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Monday, November 3, 2008

IMPORTANT: You will be making your hormone presentation on Week 13, right after the practicum. Therefore, you may NOT choose which day to take the practicum. You MUST attend the laboratory section in which you are officially enrolled. If you do not show up, you will receive a zero on your hormone presentation. Also, to allow time for the presentations, I will have to set an earlier time limit for the practicum. Be fully prepared, and don't be a minute late.

I've added several links today. Under Official Information, you'll find the breakdown of Practicum 2. Under Course Materials, I've added links having to do with the femoral triangle and fetal circulation. I also moved the link for the Practice Blood-Route Worksheets from Assignments and Scores to Course Materials. Finally, I added the following link to Potentially Useful Study Links:
http://highered.mcgraw-hill.com/sites/0072919329/student_view0/chapter15/labeling_exercises.html#
I've decided to give you an extra week to complete your vascular project, because I think it's good to see the veins on the cadaver before completing your drawings. They'll be due the week of 27 October.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

The meeting times for the BIO202 labs are now posted under Official Information. Also, someone left a transparent binder of BIO202 materials in the laboratory on 13 October. I put it on the shelving unit for pickup. There are also BIO160 labs held there at times, so you could pick it up during one of those, too.
The Practice Blood-Route Worksheets that I posted (under Assignments and Scores) are just that: practice. They are not required; they will not earn you any points. They are simply there to practice for similar questions that will appear on the practicum. The Vascular Project is intended to also help you prepare for such questions.

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Don't forget to bring your textbook to the laboratory tonight. You'll need it to start working on the vascular project.

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

Your hormone worksheets must be submitted at the BEGINNING of lab, right before the practicum. You should keep a copy for yourself, so make a photocopy if necessary.

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Someone left a pink list of model structures in the 202 lab. There were quite a few notes written on it. I put it on the gray shelving unit. If there's no one there, try the Biology Office on the second floor.

Monday, September 29, 2008

One of you left a blue notebook (with lecture notes) in the BIO202 laboratory. I put it on the gray shelving unit just inside the door. You can pick it up any time there's a class being held there. (Knock if you have to.)

Friday, September 26, 2008

I've corrected the misspellings of "ischiocavernosus" on the male and female pelvis keys.

Thursday, September 18, 2008

So that I don't have to keep answering the same question, I've added a link explaining the Policy for Late Assignments. Be sure to read it. The link is under Assignments and Scores.
I've added keys to the Reproductive System models used in the laboratory. They should be easier to use than the blue and pink keys displayed with the models. Look for them under Course Materials.

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

I've changed the description of the Hormone Project. It used to say that you need to sign up for a hormone at DB209. Instead, you must email me to sign up. If you have an early version of the project description, be sure to note the change.
I've updated the Laboratory Schedule so that it now indicates that the Hormone Worksheet (30 points) is due on Week 7. This has always been the due date, but the schedule did not explicitly say so. Be sure to pencil that in or print a new Laboratory Schedule. Also, the Vascular Project will be assigned on Week 7, and it's not nearly as involved as the Hormone Project, so don't worry about it yet.

Monday, September 15, 2008

I have added two links having to do with the hormone group project for the laboratory section. Look for them under the Assignments section. Be sure to read through them soon. Pick your group partners and send me an email listing the members of your group and the hormone you'd like to work on. I might have to assign a different hormone, depending on whether other groups choose the same hormone.

Tuesday, September 9, 2008

I forgot to mention to the class as a whole that there's no need to print out pages of data from PhysioEx (even though PhysioEx tells you to do so). It's just a waste of paper and toner and electricity. All you need to do is transcribe the appropriate data from the screen to the pages in the PhysioEx workbook that were handed out to you (and that you will hand in).
It's important that you realize that the Liver Lecture, which I gave during the laboratory session, is actually a spillover of information for the lecture section of the course. The information in the Liver Lecture will be covered on my lecture examination. The only things different about the Liver Lecture and all of the 5:30 lectures I've given are the time of day and the room.

Monday, September 8, 2008

I've added my current tutoring schedule (at the Success Center) to the Tutoring link.

Saturday, August 30, 2008

I have updated the Course Syllabus to reflect the change in policy regarding laboratory printouts.

Friday, August 29, 2008

The Notes for Downloading link and the policy about printing out laboratory materials have changed.

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Be sure to see the Special Note About PhysioEx.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

The Notes for Downloading page has been corrected.
I've added the breakdown of questions for Practicum 1.

Monday, August 25, 2008

I've added Wikipedia links to some of the vocabulary terms.

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

The Course Syllabus, Laboratory Schedule, and Textbooks links have been updated. Be sure especially to see the Textbooks link, which now includes a required laboratory text.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

The BIO202 syllabus was added to the website on 18 August, but it still contains some misinformation. Be sure to check back later. Similarly, the laboratory schedule is not yet engraved in stone, so expect some changes there as well.
